Optimizing Transportation of Oilseeds in
Abstract
Oilseeds, as industrial crops, are considered the main sources of edible oils for human beings and oil cakes in feeding for poultry activities. Therefore, they have special positions among agricultural crops. It is vital that the processing activities of vegetable oil industrial depend highly on the availability of the supply of oilseeds. Due to the wide spread of the production regions of oilseeds in
The main objective of this study was to construct a linear programming transportation model in order to minimize the transportation costs of oilseeds crops (sunflower, soybean, rapeseed and safflower) shipped from different supply regions to different pressing oil factories. The number of production centers (supply origins) for sunflower, soybean, rapeseed and safflower are 40 regions, 30 regions, 76 regions and 29 regions respectively, including two importing origins for soybean. Also, the demanding centers for sunflower, soybean, rapeseed and safflower seeds are 7 factories, 16 factories, 13 factories and 7 factories, respectively.
This study used the monthly data of year 1383 based on the capacities of origin supplies, warehouse, monthly consumption of demanding centers and related transportation cost. Lingo computer package was applied to solve the transportation model. Based on the optimal solutions of the model, the transportation cost reductions for sunflower, soybean, rapeseed and safflower seeds are 434,420,500 Rials, 87,664,424,000 Rials, 1,296,258,000 Rials and 88,751,400 Rials respectively in 1383.
